I Just Got My Refund!

I just got my tithing refund check today. It was pretty big this year because at tithing settlement I was able to claim all of the readers of this blog as spiritual dependents. Also it was a good thing I had saved all my receipts from last year, because I was able to write off all the times I gave money to homeless people.

Remember you only have until April 6th to file, so if you haven't yet, you'd better hurry and do so.

I say we eliminate tithing altogether, and start charging tithing on retail sales... it's a Fair Tithe. I know we can get Huckabee on board with this one.

Not a bad idea, Syphax. Not bad at all.

In fact I bet Huckabee would be so on board with that, that he would even be willing to lay down a smooth and soulful bassline for the new Mormon Fair Tithe.

I'm filing mine right now, but I'm confused as to what to do with the 'receipts' I received from the friendly car-unloaders at The D.I.: not only are the receipts blank, but all I donated were bags of garbage. What's the monetary value there?

I just picked up my TurboTithe software at Macey's. Supposed to make tithing settlement preparation super easy. I'm glad Macey's carries it because I like to buy stuff from stores that aren't open on the Sabbath.

I have a bishop who used to work for the Mafia. I have to figure in his cut....

But it's much better than when my former bishop worked for the IRS. He'd ask how much I made in the last year, and tell me to "tithe" the entire amount. And he made me fill out several forms in triplicate!

Dude. I have always secretly wished that you would get all your tithing back at the end of the year at tithing settlement. As if paying the tithing was just a test, and you passed, so you get all the money back as the reward. However, then when it's Jan 1, you forget that even happened so that you're ready to be tested again. Hopefully my reward is in heaven, 'cause this reward has never come :(

Yeah, they say that if you get a tithing refund, the windows of heaven are no longer opened unto you. But it's not like they are closed either... They're still somewhat ajar.

I always wondered if I worked for
THE church if I would get a tithing discount, you know like 5% or something? Maybe they don't tell you until you're hired and then employees must keep it super secret.

Wait, you guys don't actually get tithing refunds?! Huh. I probably shouldn't mention anything about how that's strengthened my testimony to the Stake President.

I used to work for BYU-I. They actually offered an option to withhold your 10% with your taxes.
