Every time I hear the word "moisture" in a prayer I giggle inside.

I say, if you want or need rain, pray for rain, because if you pray for moisture, you may just be sent some nasy humidity.

Similarly, if you need money, pray for money and tell Heavenly Father what it is going to be used for. (It better be something important, and you better follow through.)

Thanks for the spelling correction. Spelling is certainly one of my weaknesses. I'm just embarrassed it was up for so long spelled that way.

Just got introduced to the blog; I LOVE IT. There's so much to love and to laugh about when you are a Mo. One small nitpickle about your legal disclaimer: there's a slight irony about your assertion of intellectual property rights using a misspelling of "intelectual." There it is; I've said it. Don't hate me for being a good speller (and a BYU-educated lawyer to boot). Straighten that out and we'll be good.

Also, what do you think about suggestions for future blog entries? One of the questions that has haunted me since I was a boy: why does every leader in the Mormon Church have a middle initial associated with his name? I recognize there are exceptions to this rule, in particular, the exception where the initial appears in place of the first name. This really bothers me, and I desire some relief.

You are truly inspired. As are all those people who say moisture in prayers as opposed to other water inspired words like snow or rain. Also I'm pretty sure 90% of my tithing money goes to pay for air conditioning during sacrament meetings so men can wear suits year round. Can you look into that? Many thanks!

We live in a desert, and are grateful for water in any of its forms. This includes rain, snow, dew, overturned water trucks, coolers full of ice dumped on the lawn after the camping trip. We use the word "moisture" because there are so many ways to make our fill our resevoirs that we don't want to have to ... name them one by one.

Note to self : "show me the money" is no longer appropriate in Sac Mtg prayer. I knew moisture was a chosen term versus the laman terms like rain/snow.

Thanks for the heads up. We always running late because of the kids, I probably missed that bit of ward business at some point.

Interesting thought. Though maybe they are afraid that by acknowledging one and not the other, that God will deem them ungrateful for the one they left out... and flood us again.

I think the pray-er has a subconscious belief that using words like "rain" or "snow" in a prayer would be inappropriate or too informal - they would see it as being the same as using the terms "rad" or "show me the money" in a prayer.

Another result of something having such a strong place in the culture (heard something your whole life) that it has become as good as doctrine.

I have often wondered if pray-ers in Sacrament Meeting say "moisture" just in case it might have rained *and* snowed during the week, and they don't want to be embarrassed by saying only one when both actually occurred.

But then again, that's probably not it. A strange phenomenon, though.
